Getting Re-Elected When You Were Never Elected

Dean Karsky was appointed to fill a city council seat vacated by City Councilor Bob Litz who was duly elected as County Auditor. Although Dean Karsky has run for a city council position prior to his appointment to fill the vacated seat, he has never won a city council election in his own right. He has never been "elected" in a city council race.

He is running again for a seat on the city council. This campaign sign is troubling. Websters Dictionary defines re-elect as "to elect for another term." Karsky was never elected to the term of office he is currently holding. He was appointed by the other city councilors to fill a vacant seat.

So, what do you think? Isn't this a misleading way to run a campaign?

  1. You are 100% right. I noticed that right away and thought, "Wow, how dumb must he be? He does not even know he was appointed....not elected." He is running for election.....not for re-election as you point out. He should cover up "re-elect" on every one of those signs!!

  2. I, too, saw this and thought "what the heck." I sent him an e-mail asking how he could be "re-elected" when he hadn't been "elected" in the first place. Has he answered my email? Absolutely not. I wish I could vote against him...unfortunately, I am in the wrong area of town.

  3. Oh brother! Let's hear it for truth-in-advertising. Get out the duct tape, Dean - you've got some cover-up-ing to do.

  4. If he had voted for a downtown events center, Jennifer would love him and be spinning the message on this sign to defend him.....reading your personal attacks gets so old, are you really this bored?!?

    1. Why don't you stop reading if you feel the personal attacks are getting old? YOUR personal attacks on Jennifer are what's getting old. Go away you troll.

    2. It is obvious from your posts that you don't even know Jennifer and what she will or won't do, so quit spinning your own little negative jive and just go away. I don't understand why she even bothers to post your boring small minded, insulting posts.

    3. Jennifer's blog is far, far from boring. If I want the latest on events twisted by advertising revenue, I'll read the Argus. If I want the scoop on city politics I'll read Jennifer and DaCola. Statewide, it's the Madville Times. I've had more than one topic with Jennifer I've disagreed with. She has even chosen not to post a couple of my posts. That's fine. It's her blog. And a DAMN good one at that. You...08:59, are a troll. Prolly on the taxpayer nickel no less.

  5. Really, 8:59 pm, what's the events center got to do with this stupid mistake of a sign Karsky himself put out on the streets? It's you 8:59 who is boring!!! Please, Jennifer, quit allowing this person to post on your blog. They make no intelligent comment to the subject matter (EVER!) and seems only interested in namecalling. They are obviously too stupid to realize how their comments sound.

  6. Dear 8:59pm (ANONYMOUS): why are you following Jennifer's blogs? Are you doing so to broaden your point of view or seeking the opportunity to demean? I'm so tired of ranting when others do not agree. Try reading and listening, now and then a thoughtful individual will find a spark of truth and enlightenment.

  7. It makes Karsky look desperate and insecure. You don't even need the word on the candidate's sign - just his name and the office he is seeking. Typical insurance salesman!

  8. Misleading? Yes. Cheesey? Yes. Effective campaign tactic? Yes. More misleading and cheesey than BPI's morphing of 'Pink Slime' into 'Finely textured lean beef'? Not even close.
