I Have My Eyes on You!

A little mischief out at the airport terminal it seems. This picture was on the ArgusPoliblog as well as floating around on Facebook.

You have to admit that it is funny.  I am sure the mayor is not too happy about it. The thing is that when you put yourself way out there, day in and day out like the mayor does, this kind of thing is bound to happen. The mayor is everywhere. Hence, the big googly eyes? It is kind of amazing that the airport personnel didn't catch this "defacing" of our fearless leader as they walked about the halls of the terminal.

I heard he got up at the diversity seminar the other day and talked about his difficult upbringing again, growing up with an alcoholic father and that he cried. He has obviously overcome adversity growing up as he is a successful businessman and mayor of the largest city in South Dakota. But really, how many times do we have to hear this story with tears?  The story was OK when you wanted everyone to know who you were and where you came from when you were running for office. I say move on, Mayor. You accomplished your biggest campaign promise - to get the event center built. It's the future, not the past that is going to impress people.

We all have our googly eyes on you!

  1. I am sure that they enhance his 'vision' for all the 'good people' of our city.

  2. What is his picture doing there anyhow? This is a "regional airport" . Where are the pictures of the mayors from Brandon, Harrisburg, Canton,Dell Rapids. They are in the region!!

  3. If you can't cry like Mike, you can't hang with Mike.

  4. You all need to Move On, get over yourselves. He won the election to be Mayor, he won the election on the Event Center. Give it up, you appear petty. In fact are you just that?

  5. Petty? No. Sick of the pathetic "my poor childhood?" - Yes!!!!!! If anyone needs to move on or receive some help - at this point - I think it is Mike. How many leaders do you know break down over their childhood on a monthly basis? You are right - we did elect him to be Mayor. He needs to get over the crying game and the same story he delivers and start channeling all of the great blessings he has received and act like a leader. Noone's childhood was perfect, but they don't keep tapping the same well for sympathy. I listened to it when he was running for Mayor and the frickin' story and moments of breaking down hasn't changed. It's exactly the same!!!!! He's making a fool of himself. If his childhood was that dramatic - check yourself in for a few weeks and learn how to deal with it, because I guarantee that a large portion of some of those people at the diversity council conference came from a hell of alot worse than a single mom and an alcoholic dad.

  6. He lives in a wealthy part of Sioux Falls, donates enough money to Augustana to get his name on the tennis courts, building a "get away" on some "lake", can fly off to Florida to relax after his big victory. Seems like he should get over his crying jag and be thankful for his blessing.

  7. Overblown Tears Not WorkingNovember 17, 2011 at 9:48 AM

He uses and reuses his "story" and crying to elicite sympathy. Sorry Mayor, it's not working. The public is uncomfortable with your fake displays. Please stop it.

  8. They forgot the devil horns. This guy is a jerk who has had several obscene/ profane tirades at city workers since he took office.

  10. I do not think we are petty at all. We recognize a con man when we see it. Perhaps you did not hear him on the day after the even ts center election say that the cost is not 115 million but 124 million. Just one more lie. I did not vote for him and I did not vote for the events center because we cannot afford it. Still have not heard how this is going to be paid for. Have never seen a solid financing plan. Could any of you purchase a house without knowing how you are going to pay for it? He is the worst thing to happen to this city ever!!!!

  11. Rumor has it that his private lake is actually a pool of his own tears.

  12. Other events centers in the area need 1.5% of population to fill their centers.

Sioux Falls needs 5.3% of our population (metro not just city) to fill ours.

Did the mayor include this information in the many, many educational meetings he held? Does anyone know?

  13. Anonymous at 5:59......

I attended all 18 of Mike's EC updates at Carnegie, all Q and A sessions, and three roadshow presentations.

This was never mentioned along with a lot of other facts......!!!!

Example: I had to jump through all kinds of "hoops" to get them to update the amortization schedule that shows the "true" capital costs of $183 million (115m/construction costs, 10m/debt service, 58m/interest costs)

  14. The bottom line is the Events Center may be profitable the first few years because of the novelty effect and citizens desire to see what $186 million will buy a person. After that the Events Center will run in the red and have to be propped up by subsidies from the city - just like the Pavillion which eventually was forced to beg for donations. Everyone on each side of the issue knows this truth.

  15. What the public needs to be concerned about NOW, is the Council vote this Monday at the 7:00 meeting!!

    Negotiated vs. Competitive Bond Sale......

And, the possibility that the repayment period will be extended from 22 years to 26 years!

**The information that Mike and his team gave to the public was a 22 year repayment period with an end date of 2033. The information that Doug Hajek, bond counsel, gave to the Council last week is that the final maturity date could be as late as 2037!!!

I CANNOT believe that we have not heard a word from the local media about this...they've had since Monday to be talking about a bond sale that could potentially cost us "more" (negotiated), put us at more risk, and take longer to pay off!!!!!!!!!!!!! (see siouxfalls.org November 14, 2011, 7:00 Council meeting, Ray Woodsend public input)
