Crossing the Line

Last night on election eve, a number of people stood before the City Council to offer public testimony regarding the Event Center debate. One of the people testifying before the Council was a person who was in opposition to the Event Center. This person is an ordinary citizen who chose to become educated and engaged in this very important issue for Sioux Falls.

He woke up this morning to find unsolicitied Build It Now Vote Yes signs in his front yard and on the city right of way:

This is clear trespassing on private property. It is also interesting to note that this person has an unlisted address. Signs placed secretly in the dead of night.  Petty, immature, childish behavior on behalf of the Vote Yes crowd. Obviously, they had some left over signs they didn't want to go to waste. This behavior speaks volumes for the professionalism of this group.

  1. You'd think Jim Entenmen would have better things to do with his time.

  2. Cry me a river, the dude loves the spotlight and won't give up his 10 minutes....after today, back to your dismal reality Andy. Last week this guy was spreading lies and rumors on facebook telling people that police are taking a 5% pay cut for the events center....I have no sympathy because somebody put a few signs in his yard for fun, happens every campaign.

  3. Anonymous internet posters may be "gutless" (right Mr Traub?), but we also don't have weirdos stalking us. I'm sure he can expect a few phone calls or drive-by honks/hoots tonight if the vote doesn't go in his favor.

  4. While I voted no, I think it a harmless prank. The serious prank is the assertion this will cash flow. It will make the Pavillion look like a cash cow.

  5. Maybe we could all take a step back, it is an Event Center, not the End of the World.

  6. I don't get paid to fight for a downtown events center. I give a rip and I'm willing to use my real name. Man or woman up or go away. If you disagree with me that's fine, it's called democracy. I immediately clarified my comment about the 5% pay cut so don't accuse me of lying. I made a mistake and corrected it.

My reality is not dismal. I have three beautiful kids, an amazing wife, a great group of friends, a loving church family and a healthy business. I'm not hiding from this topic because I have nothing to hide. Jennifer, you really shouldn't allow anonymous comments because it allows people to say things they would NEVER say face to face...at least I hope they wouldn't. I'm not picking a fight, I'm just asking for accountability.

Hey, I guess you can be anonymous if you want. But would you really tell me I have a dismal life if you were standing in front of me? I hope you're a better person than that. I didn't threaten anyone and I didn't trespass on anyone's property. You shouldn't defend that. Build it Now didn't defend it when they came to pick up their signs.

  7. I'm with you Andy, if you have an opinion own it. I've never understood why folks who obviously have strong opinions want to remain anonymous. It's probably gotten me in more trouble than I can recall; but, I say speak truth to power.

  8. Cheryl Mercer..........

It's much easier for you to express strong opinions AND reveal your identity..........

when you do NOT live in our community!!

  9. Amen, CR. What happened in front of Andy's house, while illegal, pales in comparison to comments and actions that I've seen and heard directed at both friends and other citizens over the past year - just because they have a differing opinion from the Mayor, BIN and their stooges.

The outcome of today's vote is MUCH bigger than just an event center - I fear it could be seen as a mandate for continued bully tactics and illegal gamesmanship from the narcissists who believe they have the right to control what is thought, said and done in our community.

  10. Yet another anonymous opinion...DO NOT tell me that verbal shots are worse than trespassing on my property in the middle of the night while my wife and children sleep. There's freedom of speech, not freedom of putting $&% in my lawn. Seriously, how can you even try to defend illegal actions that take away a feeling of safety for my family? There is NO justification for trespassing on my property.

  11. CR, I am not a member of your community and accept that many are in positions where expressing opinions openly may not be comfortable or prudent. In addition, I realize it may be easier for some individuals to
state their mind. I believe that citizen involvement at all levels of government is the sunshine a Republic needs to survive.
